In the early '90s JJ's American Diner was located in the center of Coral Gables where I first tried it. Not too long ago,
Marcela and I ate there and we were disappointed. She still brings it up to this day (and blames me for it too). I convinced
Ed to go with me , I mean any place can have an off day. When we walked in, there was a car chase on the news which had everyone in the place captivated, all 5 of them. There were more employees than customers which is a bad sign, you don't need to watch
Kitchen Nightmares to know that. As far as apps go, we went with the
Homemade Chicken Tenders w/ fries,
Mild Spicy Battered Chicken Wings, and the
Wets ( Fries covered with cheese and gravy). I thought of the 3, the
Homemade Chicken Tenders were the best, but nothing I haven't had better elsewhere.

Now the
Mild Spicy Battered Chicken Wings, where do I start? Mild, Spicy and Battered were 3 things they were not and the last thing it wasn't was good.
Ed seemed to love them though. The
Wets, should be called the pits if you ask me, bad execution, the fries were slightly burned but that didn't stop
Ed from going to town on them also.

I had the
Patty Melt (I'm sure you know the ingredients) and thought it was what it should be.

I tasted the rye bread, the onions, the cheese but the flavor of the patty did not make an appearance. In their defense, I've never had a patty melt where I could really taste the actual burger, those flavors always tend to overwhelm the burger.
Ed ordered the
Famous American 10 oz. Burger with swiss cheese, grilled onions and bacon.

We both agreed that the burger itself got lost in the flavors of the toppings. JJ's have a pretty extensive menu , which in some ways reminds me of the
Big Pink, the only difference is that the
Big Pink's burger was worth the drive.

I couldnt agree with you any more. I was highly dissapointed when i went there one night. Noticed the same thing the staff outnumbered the customers and they all seemed to busy to really provide any service.
I think i payed around 11-13 dollars for 1 waffle. 1 WAFFLE!!!
Left me pretty bummed out as I do enjoy a good diner.
