El Rey De Las Fritas is one of those places tourists descend on when they visit Miami, Fl. It's located in Little Havana (the loudest place in Miami) and on Calle Ocho (aka 8th st.) There is no doubt once you walk in and check out the decor where this place is located. I've lived in Miami most of my life and El Rey De Las Fritas has never really been one of those places that I feel I need to eat often at. It had been awhile since I had been to one so I figured, why not. I headed to the original Rey's location, which moved from it's original location a few years ago. If you're into people watching, there were plenty of characters in this place to suit your needs. I ordered their hot dog, a couple of fritas (one with cheese and one without) and some fries. Replace the squarish cuban roll with a longer one, check. Replace the frita with a hot dog, check. Add the same toppings (shredded potatoes & diced raw onions), check. Was the hot dog good? I thought it was a good idea but the combination of flavors did not work for me. It's also cut in half by the way. The fries were a standard affair, pretty much what I find at all the frita establishments, one can only assume everyone took their lead from them, instead of regular fries you can also choose to get the tiny shredded potatoes. The fritas were good, I preferred the one with cheese though, when generally I prefer the one without. I still don't think it's the best frita in Miami, my taste buds know that El Mago De Las Fritas is where it's at ( gratuitous Beck reference) .
