I had seen
MiamiDon's
Seven Burgers post at the
Roadfood site and it inspired me to check out a few of the places. One of those being,
Shorty's which I have not eaten at in a good 7 to 8 years. I'm not a fan of ribs but it seems that this is what you should get when you come to
Shorty's. By the time
Marcela and I arrive,
Ed is already at the table and as usual
Michelle is a bit late. I go appetizer crazy and convince everyone to order
Cheese Fries,
Onion Rings,
Wings,
Mac n Cheese and
Marcela gets a corn on the cob. By the time the appetizers are served,
Michelle arrives and we pretend to not notice her going to town on the fries and onion rings. Nothing too memorable here except for the sauce at the table which tastes like the crud I clean off of my BBQ grill at home (for the record I have never tasted that crud). I take the comment about nothing too memorable back,
Marcela really liked her corn.
Ed orders a full slab of baby backs,
Michelle orders a combo platter with baby back ribs and spare ribs

and I get the
Big Shorty's Cheeseburger.
Ed allows me to try his ribs and they're pretty good,
Michelle allows me to try her Spare Ribs and I could definitely live without that. I am now not a fan of spare ribs, and she didn't seem to like them too much either.
Ed likes his ribs though. As for my burger, well it wasn't bad, it was ok. I would definitely take a pass on ordering this again if I ever come back here. We also ordered a
Hot Apple Cobbler which was more like a lukewarm apple pie with ice cream.
Marcela and
Ed love it, I don't get it and I might be better off that way.

That sauce tastes like someone ashed their cigarette in a bottle of vinegar. Thumbs way down.
The beans are outstanding. And I love the BBQ chicken. II think you should have gone to the original on S Dixie Hwy and 73rd Ave. What's with the affinity for Doral?
I have no affinity for doral, those locations happen to be closer to where I live. I hope that's an acceptable answer.
I'm sorry to have riled you into responding on your own comment board.
Actions speak louder than words and you clearly don't have a problem traveling great distances to get to food.
I was just wondering why you hit the branch restaurants rather than the flagships.
To a certain extent, I suppose you are correct in doing so. These places should be maintaining quality at all locations, not just the flagship. Your reviews prove they're failing at that.
I guess I'm still hurt by that bad Flanigan's review. I think your missing out on some great food by going to these crappy branches.
The good news is I don't think there are any more crappy Doral restaurants left for you to review. Which means there must be another Colombian hot dog review coming soon.
I agree with Ghenghis. Even thought the quality should be the same at all the locations, the original near Dadeland is much better, with the one on Bird road coming in 2nd. Last time I was at the Doral one, I vowed never to go back there.
You forgot, I haven't gone to Tony Roma's yet. I promise to go the Flanigan's near the grove, as for the Shorty's on US1, that's not happening. I have sworn off Colombian hot dog places but I'm going to be at Rio Cristal tonight, let's see how well that place holds up.
