For quite a while I've heard whispers about Charm City Burger Company. I will tell you that it generally takes a few unrelated people to mention the same burger spot for me to consider checking it out. Unless of course your burger guidance has produced great results in the past. Charm City Burger Company also had one other thing going against it in my case. It's a good 45 minutes from where I live in Miami.
John and I are in Sunrise and I convince him to make the extra 20 minute or so drive from there to Charm City Burger Company (truth be told, there's not much convincing when I mention it's a burger place).
Ed was going to go unfortunately this was the wrong place to miss out on. He will be hating himself when he reads this. Charm City Burger Company has a door in the rear which is where we make our entrance.

Couple of cool things to start with: 1) They serve Coke (believe it or not this is very important to me 2) Awesome mural, reminds me of McDonaldland for some reason

and 3) Food Network is playing on the TV. We go to the counter to order and are just overwhelmed when we look over the menu. Since we can't decide, we both order the same burger, The Big Sloppy. The Big Sloppy, besides being a great name for a professional wrestler is Double Meat, Double Cheese, Double Bacon, Hash Brown and a Fried Egg.
John orders Tator Tots (someone is longing for his grade school days I see)

and I get the Vidalia Onion Rings (what a real man orders).

Since no one is here to stop me i.e.:
Marcela, I also order the 1/4 pound Kobe beef hot dog and an order of their Smokey BBQ Chicken Wings, c'mon...to share. Once the food is ready, the chef/cook will shout out the name of the item and/or person and you run up to the window and get your grub. While we're siting here waiting, the person behind the front counter who we shall refer to a "D" made some good conversation with us about Charm City Burger Company and how long they've been around etc.
"D' , the person behind the counter
Cool guy but I won't say his name for fear of it going to his head, you never know these days, lol. The wings are ready and once
John places those wings on our table, the smell is great but the taste is just Wow!

Honestly, I never had chicken wings where the meat was practically falling off the bone and the BBQ sauce was ridiculously good. On the menu it says "Garlic Herb Marinated, Slow Roasted and Grilled), As my father would say "I believe it" . While writing this, my mouth is beginning to water (no joke). The burgers arrive as
John is tearing apart the second to last wing. And now my friend the Kobe Hot Dog is here also. The Kobe Hot Dog is sliced up but tossed with grilled onions and what's called "Dizzle" sauce which is slightly spicy, really great taste.
John who doesn't eat onions loved it.

I can compare it to a really good Sausage and Peppers sub (see, you missed out
Ed). The burger was awesome and big, 2 great things. The egg, the hash brown, all I can say is it's a great marriage of flavors. We're done eating and we're discussing the food when I catch something via my "peripherals" (40 Year Old Virgin style). A Blue Bell Ice Cream Shake sign. I look over at
John and ask what flavor shake he wants?
John pretends he doesn't want one and says "Strawberry".

As I'm ordering his Strawberry Shake and my Chocolate Shake I make another decision. I might as well try the Mahogany Soy

and Volcano Wings

while we're still here. Dale is cool enough to suggest making it a split order. Did I say Dale, damn, alright so his name is Dale. Shakes were thick and great (we're talking shakes here). The Mahogany Soy although good was bested by the Volcano which we liked best out of the 3. At this point
John and I can not move. This is my first meal of the day but the guy with me had already eaten lunch so he must have really been hurtin' . At some point, it was safe enough for us to get up and make our drive home. Many thanks to Dale for being informative, funny and someone who put up with us asking a lot of questions.

Definitely check out the menu, there are a lot of other good items on there. Was it worth the drive? You better believe it.
09/27/09 UPDATE:I visited Charm City once again and had the Emperor (their version of a Patty Melt). It was Kobe beef with Truffled Mushrooms and Gruyere cheese. Just plain awesome. Ordered some fries which were fresh cut. Awesome again. And had the Oreo Fritters (deep fried Oreos) with ice cream. Yeah....a must have and I don't even like Oreos.

Not only are the burgers at this place awesome, the large selection of items always makes going there an easy choice. Everything is made with high quality ingredients and has lots of character. A Kobe Beef Patty Melt? What a great idea.
And while I don't eat salads myself, my girlfriend does and we can both be happy about where we go without having to sacrifice options. I just wished I lived closer so we could take advantage of this awesome concept more often. It's really closer to Boca than Fort Lauderdale, so they just need to open another one further South!

It almost sounds like this place trumps Keg South AND Kingdom from what you're telling us here. Is it true? Do I smell a Burgie Sweep here?

i was lucky enough to be in the neighborhood this last friday and after reading the beast's post i made sure to hit it. this place is great.
i went with my kids so i was able to try the hot dog and grilled cheese from the menu, both were great.
i had the cowboy style burger. it was nothing like what you expect "cowboy style" to be. no bbq sauce in sight. instead this one had mushrooms, grilled onions and bacon, delicious.
also tried the sweet potato fries with my combo meal. those were pretty tasty too.
i'm definitely going back.

I'm from Miami and I've driven by this place many times. Our family stays on Deerfield beach each summer. I need to check this place out after a day of swimming at the beach. sounds like a plan for next summer.
Beast: make sure to check out Whales Rib in Deerfield its not THAT far from Charm City. It's closer to the water and its a Deerfield staple. Its been there for years. It was even on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. It's pretty good if your into sea food. Theres actually a Flanigan's right next door, both places are packed with an hour wait line during the summer with all the tourists.

Durn! I guess I was hoping that the world would leave Charm City alone. Well, the word is out now, so no going back. You can be like me and simply go for the Good Ole and be happy, or you can get whatever you like from this small but excellent menu. Personally, I like the Good Ole without cheese, with fries and a cherry coke on a Friday night after a crazy week of work. I got the double once--once. OK, I am old now and have been living here for almost 35 years, so the double, while amazing, is just a bit too much unless you haven't eaten all day and don't plan to the next day. It is awesome, however. The only advice--get the fries instead of the tots. They are fresh cut, fresh cooked, and just seem to go better with the burger. As for the Big Sloppy, the Cowboy, and all the rest--yeah, I know they are good and people order the heck out of them, but for my $$, the simple Big Ole is the burger you have been waiting for and will truly love.
Cheers!

Beast, visited as per your recommendation and it was spot on. Awesome burgers, awesome joint, and I did see the Burgie hanging proudly on the wall as I came in. Great great find.

Went to Charm City Burger last night. Drove from Dade. Absolutely will go back. Had The Big Sloppy. Loved it. Better Broward Burger than Le Tub. In fact best of all Broward!! You must try it. Hope they keep their quality and friendliness, cause the're going to be very popular.
