As I was driving by Checkers a couple of days ago I saw a banner advertising their Spicy Queso Double Melts. Also available is a Spicy Queso Chicken Sandwich which were part of a 2 for $5 deal. I did the only sensible thing, I ordered both.
Marcela also tried them both so I'd have a second opinion. So what's on it? There's a creamy cheese sauce with Pepper Jack cheese and topped with what they're calling "crunchy fire sticks". The "crunchy fire sticks" are some sort of hot pepper that's breaded and fried like an onion ring (an interesting concept). It's served on a toasted bread hence the "Melt" part of the name.
The burger has double patties while the chicken is single (and looking, just kidding). Marcela and I both came to the same conclusion, the Spicy Queso Chicken Melt was the better of the 2.
The flavor didn't line up as well with the burger patties. They were something that just was better with the chicken flavor. If you're going to try them, I'd suggest going for the Spicy Queso Chicken Melt but they're 2 for $5 so....you know what I'm thinking.
