Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink in Miami

I tasted the Michael’s Genuine burger at the 2009 South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s Burger Bash. The following year they won the judge’s Golden Grill award.

I’d heard so many good things about the restaurant. So, after much hemming and hawing, I finally visited Michael’s Genuine in the Miami Design District.

On my first visit, I only ate the Harris Ranch Black Angus Burger with Vermont cheddar cheese and their house-smoked bacon. This burger was ridiculous.

Wow! That was all I could say to myself.

The burger came on ciabatta bread since Michael’s was out of brioche buns. This, of course, meant only one thing: A return trip for the brioche bun version.

I concluded my meal with Hedy Goldsmith’s (MGFD’s Pastry Chef) homemade Candies, Cookies, & Confections platter. While I’m not a dessert expert, this is the “good stuff.”

A few days passed, and it was time to try out the burger again, but on a brioche bun, of course. It’s also time to try the deviled eggs and the chile chicken wings.

If you can imagine the most delicious egg salad sandwich, well, that’s what the deviled eggs in a nutshell.

The chicken wings were crispy with a sweetish glaze. Nice flavor.

Since I hadn’t mentioned it yet, I probably should; the service at Michael’s is exceptional. The Harris Ranch Black Angus burger is served next, but this time with the brioche bun (topped with Rogue Creamery Smoke blue cheese and bacon).

Out of the park. Honestly, this is the real deal.

I loved the freshness of the beef, and house-smoked bacon can’t be beaten. And the fresh-cut fries are the best I’ve had in a long while.

I closed out the meal with their fresh doughnuts with coffee. Even though I was tempted to dunk the doughnuts, they tasted better as I ate them individually.

So, where do I go from here? I must return to Michael’s for their homemade potato chips and check out the Harris Ranch burger again. I believe it’s called quality control.

P.S.: The burger is only available on weekdays for lunch.
